Call of Duty & Annual Releases

Any gamer would know is that if there's one game you know will be launched this year for sure, it's going to be another Call of Duty game. In fact, this statement can be said every year because there is a Call of Duty game released in the time frame of September-November every single year. Even though they keep throwing out games every single year, they get huge sales and do well each year, but I feel this is their biggest flaw. I mean I'll admit, I'm not the most pro-COD player in the world and I certainly haven't played all of them either. But I've played just enough to get the sense of it, well to be honest, you could play just one and experience the entire franchise in 30 minutes. The point is they release their games too quickly and there isn't enough change. 1 year isn't the biggest time frame to improve a lot of things about a game. Of course, people could argue that Infinity Ward and Treyarch are two different companies and might side with one. Okay, so that's a 2 year gap between each game. Big whoop. I'm not trying to say that developers should make an painfully long gap between games, because we all want a new game to come out as quickly as possible. But for the developers of Call of Duty, they should definitely put more time into it and actually change some of the game dynamics and improve.

I mean really, MW2 feels exactly the same as Black Ops which feels exactly the same as MW3 and so on and so forth.  I'm not being a crybaby here or anything, and I'm not being biased and trying to bash Call of Duty as much as I can. I just think that for once, they should stop the whole Annual-Release tradition and spend some more time developing their games. I mean really, we've seen this kind of gameplay for years now. Every single MMOFPS will give you the same experience...FOR FREE. What would make you want to really buy another COD game if you already have one? The truth is there is nothing to make you want to buy another one. There is no difference and no excitement.  Sure there are going to be fanboys buying the games every single year, but it's not going to go much further than that.  Of course this was just my opinion. If you all feel a different way or want to add on, please do so in the comments section.

The Problem with F2P MMOFPS's

Don't get me wrong. I love F2P MMOFPS's. I've played a ton ranging from Combat Arms, Crossfire to what I'm currently playing; Blacklight: Retribution. The thing with MMOFPS's are that it's competitive, obviously. But that's also where the problem lies.
What I mean by this is that the games become extremely Pay-To-Win. What I mean by this is that there are 2 currencies in-game. A free currency which you win off matches, and a secondary currency which you can buy. For simplicity's sake, the free currency will be called Gold and the secondary will be called Cash. Now, after matches you get get only a handful of Gold. After a few matches and level-ups you decide to head on to the store to get some new weapons, attachments etc. What do you find? All the items are at ridiculously high prices. You'd have to play a hundred matches to get one tiny scope.
On the other side of this story however, comes a guy with tons of money to blow and goes ahead and buys a ton of Cash. He's got all the weapons and attachments he wants and he just started the game. He's going to have a HUGE advantage over anyone else who's trying to slowly get their way to one puny little gun.
This is where games get unbalanced. Compare this to a game like COD for example. There are many guns that are way better than others, but to get to these better guns you have to rank up and earn it yourself. So people that mow you down with those really flashy guns didn't just buy their way there.
But don't get me wrong, I'm not whining and this isn't enough to make me stop playing some of the games I do. Besides, you can kill tons of Cash-players with some skill.  In Blacklight for example, I find myself pretty high on the leaderboards and I haven't bought a single thing. But in my opinion, winning shouldn't be bought, it should be earned through time, practice and skill.

Planetside 2? How Will It Be?

Personally, I think this will be the game to revolutionize shooters forever, or well, gaming in general. If you don't already know about Planetside 2, it's an upcoming MMOFPS that pits 3 Factions fighting over 8 massive continents with no zoning or loading times. Yes you heard me right, it's a giant open world with no lobbies or anything. The size of this might be hard to comprehend so let me put it in perspective.
Think of the biggest Call of Duty map you've ever played on. You got it in your mind? Okay then. That is the size of ONE capture point. Yeah. This game is huge. Oh and did I mention it's free. That's right. How could a game this good even exist? That's what I asked when I found out about this game last year.
Now I would say the biggest question that everybody is asking about this game is "How are such big battles going to work" and that question goes two ways. One way is the server load and the other is the gameplay itself.
The servers are going to have to be very powerful. Let's imagine 1000 people in every area that the game has to offer, all online at once, shooting 100's of projectiles and tons of particles of explosions happening at once. Yeah, that's alot to carry. But SOE has proven they can do it with the original Planetside. And I mean, we asked the same question when MAG came out a few years ago, and those servers were just fine.
For the gameplay itself, I think you're really going to have to rely on the other teammates in your vicinity because well, If you're running of on your own chances are your going to get killed by the other 500 players. The game utilizes a squad function in which you can auto-join a squad near you, so that's pretty cool and quick.
I haven't heard anything about voice chat being implemented but I really hope they do. And I don't mean just voice chat that spans through your squad but something bigger. A SOCOM-esque approach where when you talk anyone near you can hear what you say, that includes enemies. This can add a whole new level of strategy to the game. Imagine sending a scout into enemy territory. They go in and hear all their commands, he comes back and you now have a new battle plan. The options are endless.
The game is set to release sometime this year and I honestly can't wait. Hope you all check it out,but before this blog post ends, here's a link to an interview with Planetside 2's Executive Producer Josh Hackney at the recent GDC 2012. That's all I got this time everyone, see you all around.

What can you expect?

My name is Adnan Zaman and I'm a 14 year-old male living in Scarborough, Ontario. One thing about me is I love video games. I haven't played them all and I'm far from being the best, but I'm definitely not the worst. This blog is basically a tie-in with my Youtube channel, which I will link at the end of this post. On my channel you'd find gameplays, reviews and the like and I'd really appreciate if you would check it out. As for this blog, what could you find? Most likely my thoughts on upcoming games and other things in life, along with more in-depth reviews of things not on my channel.

I don't blog very much, so I'm pretty new. I'd really appreciate if you all would have the time to read through my blog and check out my gaming channel. I hope you'll enjoy reading my posts
